Automationbench

AutomationBench is Zapier's test of whether an AI agent can finish business work that spans several apps. Zapier released it in April 2026. Each task sets up a small simulated company across 47 apps, with CRM records, inbox threads, calendars, and spreadsheets, and gives the agent one request. The agent works alone and finds the right API calls itself.

The score counts only what the agent left behind. A task passes when every fixed check on the apps' final state holds, including checks that nothing went to the wrong people. The agent's own reply counts for nothing, and no LLM judge is used. When it launched, every frontier model scored under 10%. As of October 2026, on version 1.0.6, the top score is about 51%.

Its strength is that it grades outcomes, not claims, and its tasks hide the traps real work has: near-duplicate records, stale spreadsheet rows, and rules buried in an email. Its weakness is that the apps are simulations and the tasks are synthetic, so the authors name a risk of unrealistic or impossible tasks. The 600 public tasks are on GitHub. The leaderboard uses a harder private set that Zapier sometimes makes harder between versions, so scores don't compare across versions.

Answered, plainly.

Can I run AutomationBench on my own agent?Yes, through Zapier's own CLI on the 600 public tasks, but the score won't match the leaderboard, which grades a separate, harder, private task set.answer →Does a high AutomationBench score mean an agent will work in production? Not on its own: Zapier's AutomationBench scores one run of one instruction against simulated apps that, by Zapier's own account, don't match production behavior.answer →What does an AutomationBench score mean?An AutomationBench score is the share of Zapier's held-out tasks where an agent left every checked record and message right; one failed check fails the task.answer →What is AutomationBench?Zapier's AutomationBench tests AI agents on business workflows across 47 simulated apps, passing a task only if the data left in every app is exactly right.answer →Why do AI agents say a task is done when it failed? An agent's "done" is generated text that nothing checks against the systems it changed unless someone builds that check, so failed runs still report success.answer →How is AutomationBench different from tau-bench?AutomationBench runs an agent alone against simulated apps and grades the state it leaves behind. tau-bench grades a live conversation with a simulated customer.answer →Is there an independent leaderboard for AutomationBench?Yes: Artificial Analysis runs AutomationBench-AA, scoring models against a private 657-task subset of Zapier's benchmark that isn't published anywhere else.answer →Which kinds of business work do AI agents do worst at on AutomationBench? On Zapier's AutomationBench, the best any model scores is 39.17% in HR and 45.00% in Support, against 68.00% in Operations.answer →What changed in the latest version of AutomationBench?Version 1.0.6 (July 31, 2026) fixed unfair tasks and made the private set harder to compensate, so scores from before and after it don't compare directly.answer →
